Church Governance

Our congregational government is organized into several boards. We do this because God is a God of order and wants everything done in a fitting and orderly way (1 Corinthians 14:33,40). Men and women may serve on these boards, which have male directors according to God's command in 1 Timothy 2:12. We hope to carry out the work Jesus has given us and to raise up God's people for lives of Christian faith. Our executive director is Phil Nass (758-2200).

Spiritual Welfare: This board promotes spiritual wellness and supervises everything pertaining to congregational worship. This group supports and visits members. Contact Russell Holschbach (726-4738) to help.

Evangelism: This board exists to build bridges to those who don't know Jesus as Savior and to share the message of forgiveness with them. They help assimilate new members, follow up on visitors, and reach out to all. Speak to Ron Ronski (684-0056) to learn more.

Stewardship: This board seeks to develop God pleasing attitudes toward time, talents, and treasures within the congregation. They help set the ministry plan (aka 'budget') and organize volunteer efforts. Contact Greg Haupt (769-0523) for more info.

Parish Education: This group is entrusted with carrying out Christian education at First German. Except for our Lutheran elementary school, all educational ministry (VBS, Sunday School, Youth, etc) fall under this board. Talk to Joel Ungemach (686-2882).

Lutheran Schools: In conjunction with the principal Mr. Dennis Leckwee, this board oversees our Lutheran elementary school and has a voice in the Manitowoc Lutheran High School Federation. Call Al Liermann to learn more (905-0422).

Church Properties: This group maintains our current properties and repairs things when necessary. If you like working with your hands, gardening, or fixing things, contact Larry Nickels (901-2174).

Service Groups

Ladies Aid: The Ladies Aid exists to provide Christian fellowship and service for the women of First German. They meet on the second Thursday of the month in the afternoon. They serve luncheons at funerals, visit sick and shut-ins, sponsor a display of religious cards and gifts, and provide fellowship activities. Contact Marion Thiel (682-3049) for more info.

Evening Circle: Evening Circle is another option for women's fellowship in our midst. This group meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month in the evening. They provide a forum for discussion and service, as well as connecting our women to each other. Contact Joan Reneau (726-4705) for more info.

Altar Guild: This group takes care of the set up and maintenance of our communion ware and altar paraments. Contact Armilla Mrotek (682-0839) for more info.

Ushers: Confirmed men & 7th/8th graders are welcome to serve as ushers in our divine worship services. Ushers are the face of First German for visitors and servants to our members. Speak with one of the pastors for more info.
